Hot Rod Pin-ups by David Perry

I am ashamed to admit it but I absolutely loved this book. I recently picked up a bunch of car books for reading over the Christmas Holidays. Since Katrina and I both like Art Deco design, hot rods and old pin-ups I decided to read David Perry’s Hot Rod Pin-ups by Motorbook. I wasn’t sure what to expect but was pleasantly surprised.
We have both been long time followers of 40s and 50s garage calendars and auto parts advertisements featuring pin-up girls. There is a certain connection between old school hot rods and sexy women. Often times the images are drawings of wild girls and nasty hot rods. Back in the day you would see them on movie posters, detective paperbacks, magazine covers and the like.
David Perry is an artist and a car guy who knows how to combine that talent with beautiful women. I not to long ago read The Art of the Hot Rod with photography by Peter Harholdt, also from Motorbook. Where that book was a piece of fine art and contained beautifully finished hot rods this book features old school rods in dirty garages.
Art of the Hot Rod is for the living room coffee table while Hot Rod Pin-ups is for the garage; your buddies will wear it out when they are over to talk cars.
