Rat Rods
What is a Rat Rod?
The interest in Rat Rods is, arguably, not as strong as it was a few years ago but there does remain a certain fixation with them. I believe what has reduced the interest is the influx of Rat Rods that were in all reality nothing more than Junk Rods. These are poorly built, dangerous to drive collections of old discarded parts.
The real interest, in my mind, in Rat Rods is in two distinct varieties. The first are on those cars built as humorous works of art. They are actually full size cartoons if you will. They may or may not be safe to drive but they have lots of thought in them and make you smile. The second are those Rat Rods that are really Hot Rods built in the old school tradition. No shinny chrome or over the top paint jobs. They are raw and well engineered. Most likely they look like they were built from junk yard parts but you know they are strong, safe and fast. They often closely resemble original Hot Rods from the 40s and 50s.
Rat Rod Gallery
On this page we provide you with some links to a variety of Rat Rods we have found over the years and they run the spectrum from Junkyard Rat Rod to the well engineered vintage style Hot Rod. We have some Rat Rods on our Feature Car page but this page is for some of those other Rat Rods that caught our eye at a show but we don’t have space to Feature. Hope you enjoy them.
If you have a Rat Rod you would like considered for our web site please send digital photos and description to rfleener@comcast.net for consideration.
