Muscle Car Show: Monster MOPAR Weekend XXIV Gateway International Raceway ST Louis

Dodge Challenger

There were great Mopars of all shapes and colors at the Monster Mopar Weekend. This Challenger was setting up in the rain but it was beautiful.

Chrysler Turbine Car

Even the Chrysler Turbine car was there! This was one of the big moments of the entire weekend for me. You will see a Feature on this car in the up coming months. Keep an eye on our Feature Car page.

Chrysler Turbine Car

See any styling similarities between these two Mopars? I certainly do.

Chrysler Turbine Car

This has to be one of the all time great interiors. Look at that console!

Chrysler Turbine Car

The tail is over the top but spectacular. I stood behind this car with the turbine running and the blast was significant as was the heat.

Chrysler Turbine Car

There it is; this is what Chrysler thought was our future. Hey, they raced at Indy. How close was it to being what we could be driving today?

Monster Mopar Weekend

There was a Hemi everywhere you looked.

IMG_2724

How often do you see two Superbirds together? How about 36 Superbirds and Daytonas all in one place!

If you would like to see more of two very special winged cars, Click Here to visit our Feature on two Dodge Daytonas.

Monster Mopar Weekend

Dodge Charger 500

This is a Dodge 500, just like the Daytona but no wing and no long nose. These are even rarer than the Daytonas.

Aero Warriors Monster Mopar Weekend

How would you like to look in your mirror and see a line of Mopar winged cars coming up behind you?

Aero Warriors Monster Mopar Weekend

Check this out, 730 cars with only 9 Fords. The rest were all Mopars. How did the Fords get in? They were invited by the Mopar folks as part of the special Aero Warrior display. The Mopar winged cars would have never been built if the Ford Talladegas and Mercury Cyclone Spoiler IIs hadn’t given the White Hat guys from Dodge so much grief on the race track back in 69. THANK YOU MOPAR FOLKS FOR INVITING US LOWLY FORD FOLKS TO YOUR PARTY!

Aero Warriors Monster Mopar Weekend

Here are 3 great looking “lettered cars”. The yellow Ford Talladega shown in the rear is an actual Benny Parsons race car from back in the day!
Ford Talladega

This is an outstanding creation of a street legal race car. Believe me it is more race car than street car. Watch for a feature on this car in the near future.

Ford Talladega

It isn’t a Mopar but it is an important part of history. We will also be doing a complete Feature on this car in the next few months. Keep checking our Feature Car page on this site.

Ford Talladega

There were even some stock Talladegas there and the Mopar folks were really kind to all of us Blue Oval guys and gals.

Ford Talladega the first one

Here are Katrina and I with some Ford and Mopar friends next to the first Talladega off the assembly line.

Aero Warriors at Speed

One of the best parts of the Mopar Madness Weekend was taking all of these cars on the track.

Aero Warriors Monster Mopar Weekend

A line up like this makes chills run down your back.

Aero Warriors at Speed

These cars were built for the track not the street. All of our imaginations went wild when we got on the track.

Aero Warriors Monster Mopar Weekend

Every color Superbird, Talladega and Mercury Cyclone Spoiler were at the event!

Aero Warriors on Race Track

You could almost imagine you were sitting on the grid for a race in 1969.

Aero Warriors At Speed

Just too cool!

GTX

It wasn’t all race cars and winged cars there were nearly 700 other show cars.

Aero Warriors

This is not a real race car but rather a street tribute car.

Aero Warriors Dodge 500

Dodge 500. There were at least 3 of these at the show.

Aero Warriors Plymouth Superbird

A line of birds ready to shake a tail feather or two.

Aero Warriors

You never see a line up like this unless you attend the annual Aero Wariors Reunion. NEXT year we will be at the Talladega Super Speedway on November 1 for the fall NASCAR race. Every five years we return home to celebrate the cars in style. 2009 will be the 40th anniversary for these cars and one of the high points will be a parade lap of the cars just prior to the start of the race. We could have upwards of 100 cars there next year!

Monster Mopar Weekend

This car hauler was better restored than many of the cars in the show. It drew attention all weekend. Loved this truck.

Monster Mopar Weekend Drag Races

A big part of the Monster Mopar Weekend are the drag races. Unfortunately, we could not catch much of the racing. We were busy tying to keep the cars clean and dry for the show, and oh yes making sure we got in line for our track laps on Saturday AND Sunday!

67 Dodge Charger

I didn’t spot this 67 Charger until the awards ceremony but would have liked to get more detail on it. You don’t see quality 67s like this very often.

There actually two shows going on. The main show was the Monster Mopar Weekend and the other was the Daytona Superbird Auto Club annual meet. We do not represent either Club but do belong to the DSAC. To reach Monster Mopar Weekend go to http://www.monstermopar.com/. If you are interested in the Daytona Superbird Auto Club, go to .
