Car Shows & Speed Shops

the way it use to be at the drags

We love cars and all car related activities. Katrina and I belong to several car clubs (local and national) and attend numerous car shows, events and races each year. These range from the big NASCAR races like Daytona, Talladega, Bristol etc., to small rural dirt track ovals. We also enjoy sports cars on road courses, Monster Trucks doing free style and also attend IRL and NHRA events when time permits. For a real good time we prefer the slower pace and camaraderie of any kind of vintage racing. There is nothing like “old school racing”!

In addition to local car shows and cruise-ins, we try to attend a few national shows such as a national Concours d’Elegance,  Muscle Car Corvette Nationals, Good Guys Show and Fun Ford Weekends or Super Chevy Weekends as time permits.

There may be one thing we like more than going to the races or the car shows; it is driving some back roads as part of a caravan with other car junkies. We love late 60’s NASCAR aero cars (you know, the Dodge winged Daytona, Plymouth Superbird, Ford Talladega and Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II). Between my wife and I we have owned at least one of each except for a Superbird. We also like rat rods and appreciate and drool over a 30s vintage Dusenburg, Bugatti or Delahaye or Talbot Lago and similar classic vehicles. We like to drive, show and enjoy all of our cars but we aren’t ashamed to put one on a trailer and haul it to a car show either. An old collector car will make you feel 30 years younger faster than a Happy Days rerun!

Who doesn’t like to hang out at a neat Speed Shop or Body Shop? We sure do! Every once in a while we get the opportunity to visit some exceptional speed shops or body shops and we will bring you coverage of these visits. If you own or know of an interesting Speed Shop or Body Shop send us an invite to report on it. Send to: Richard@LegendaryCollectorCars.com.

We particularly would like to know of Restoration Shops that do quality work and are friendly to the hobby. Recently there have been way too many restoration shops taking advantage of car enthusiasts. We want to give some exposure to the folks doing it right.

Watch this page regularly, we will be going to different locations every month and adding to the site. At those times when we can’t get to a new show we will recap some previous activities that we were unable to publish at the time.

Leave comments at the bottom and suggest the next place we should tour and put up on the site. Invite us to your next event.

Trump Golf Course Charlotte Concours d’Elegance 2018

1953 Cadillac Elegante. This airplane inspired two seater has a retractable hardtop. It was built from the remains of a burned out 1953 Series 62 convertible. Believed to be the first retractable hard top convertible!
