Project Barn Find AMX is off to Paint!

This is what she looked like the day we pulled her out of the Barn she had been sitting in since 1982!

Our Project Barn Find AMX is off to paint. We had to change our plans at the last minute due to scheduling conflicts and a buddy of ours has agreed to paint the car at his location. We spent the weekend neutralizing the soda blasting residue and pressure washing the car. Next up was removal of the rear window to simplify repair of a little rust we found in the rear window lip. Nothing serious but something we wanted to completely remove to prevent future problems.

I must admit some of this work is in reverse order but what project doesn’t encounter such issues? We already have given up on having the car ready for the Good Guys Bridgestone Nashville Nationals on May 20, 21, & 22. There just is not enough time to do all the body prep, paint and reassembly in the time available to devote to the car. However, we will be there with one of our other toys!

All the good stuff and more was there but she didn’t run.

While that work is going on we will remove some minor dents from the trim, polishing the stainless and getting some new chrome work done. We will also be installing some new upholstery on the seats. We have all new carpet, headliner and some other items for the interior as well. In addition, we complete some paint work on mounting brackets for the front and rear bumpers etc.

We will keep you posted with photos and updates as the body and paint progresses but in the meantime I have included a couple of photos from prior work.

This was what the engine bay looked like just as we got it back in place after a rebuild.

I grew up and lived in Iowa for a good portion of my life before moving to Southern California. After 20+ years we now live outside Nashville Tennessee. I have been into cars since I was old enough to remember. I don't have a brand loyalty although I do prefer American Muscle especially the 1969/1970 NASCAR Aero Cars. (Check out our other web site at www.TalladegaSpoilerRegistry.com site) As long as it has four wheels and an engine I get excited. Few men are lucky enough to be able to share their passion for cars with the woman they love. Fortunately, my wife, Katriana, is also a gear head and many of our activities revolve around the cars. We have a small collection that includes at least one car from each of the Big Three. It includes a Best of Show winner, a survivor, a driver with lots of patina and several others. Katrina prefers all original cars while I like to modify them so we have a few of each. When we aren't playing with cars we are out working with or showing our miniature donkeys.
