Boss 302 Mustangs; Both are Winners; as Seen at GoodGuys Nostalgia Nationals in Bowling Green 2008

Say you love the Boss 302 Mustangs but can’t make up your mind if you like the 1969 or 1970 the best? Well, have we got a deal for you. How about both! Think you know the differences? Let’s take a look.

This Feature Car is actually two Feature Cars. The first is a 1969 Calypso Coral with black interior owned by friends of ours, Mark and Rhonda Delk of Columbia, TN. Their treasure is a 71,000 mile classic that won Best of Show at the 2004 NMRA meet in Bowling Green and was picked as Mighty Mustang for the GoodGuys winners circle at the 2008 event in Bowling Green. In 2007 it was also one of GoodGuys top finalist for Muscle Car of the Year and has been featured on Muscle Car TV Flashback.

They have owned the car since August of 2004. Mark actually purchased the Boss from one of the guys he works with. (I know there is a joke in there somewhere about buying a Boss at work but I am not going there.) They had the car restored and it remains all stock with the exception of the upgraded BFG tires.
Our second Feature Car is owned by Keith and Robbi Ligon of Moulton, AL. It is a 1970 Boss 302 also painted Calypso Coral but this one has white interior. Although completely restored it shows 92,000 miles on the odometer. It runs on original style Goodyear Polyglass F60-15 White Letter tires. Keith and Robbi found the car in California five years ago and had it shipped to AL.

This Boss has also had its day in the winner’s circle. It was selected as Ford Muscle at the Bowling Green GoodGuys show in 2008, featured in Mustang Enthusiast in February 2006 and Muscle Car Enthusiast in May of 2008.

Both cars have the rear window slats but only the 70 has the rim blow steering wheel.

Both the 69 and 70 had the optional sports slats.

Rim blow steering wheel.

The 70 Boss has single headlights in the grill with vents in the fenders and marker lights mounted well above the bumper.

If you have a 69 Boss you have duel headlights with two in the grill.

The 69 front marker lights are below the bumper.

Hockey side stripe means it is a 70 Boss.

Big “C” side stripe says it’s a 69 Boss.

This is the tail of a 70 Boss. Note the side stripe, marker light and taillights.

This is the 69 Boss, see how the side stripe marker lights and taillights are different.

These are wicked cars and the Coral paint is excellent. I’m restoring a 73 Mach I and if somebody knows what code Calypso Coral crosses to in Sikkens paint I would appreciate some help with a code number. Thanks, Buck
