Benny Parson’s 1969 Ford Talladega Tribute Car; Photos and Video
This is one fantastic car. It has been featured in Hot Rod Magazine and is owned by Rick D. Stanton of California. It is built from a real 1969 Ford Talladega and is street legal but looks like a real NASCAR track car. I read about this car in Hot Rod and since we are also into Talladegas I desperately wanted to see this car. The wait was worth it. This car will make the hairs on your neck stand up when that mean Boss 429 fires up. The video included here will give you only a hint of what it is like in person. In the fall of 2008 at the Daytona Superbird Auto Club (DSAC) I finally met up with Rick and is one of a kind Talladega. Again in 2009 at the Talladega Super Speedway we gathered to take a lap of the track and it was right at home.
(You must know that the DSAC welcomes owners of the Ford Talladegas and Mercury Cyclones from 1969 with open arms into the Club. They know that if the Oval guys had not first put the Talladega on the Superspeedways there would have not been a Dodge Daytona or Plymouth Superbird. That’s right; most people think Ford responded to Dodge’s winged wonder with the Talladega. The truth is, the Talladega was first and Dodge built the Daytona when its Dodge Charger 500 wasn’t getting the job done.)
This is no trailer queen. Not only does it see track time it also can be seen on the streets of Orange County California when Rick feels the need for speed.
If it wasn’t for the license plate this could be Benny Parsons on track.
This is a flawless body but Rick is happy to wind that Boss 429 up and let her fly.
Opps! Rick said he saw the same cars 3 times as he slipped off the track in a spin. (looped it three times but no damage, ego excluded)

Holman and Moody were Competition Proven and they had a lot to do with the Ford success with the Talladega in 1969.
The underside is just as race prepared as the outside.
What a sound this pipe organ makes.
Benny Parsons drove the number 72 Talladega in NASCAR in 1969.
Not the race car dash; even retains the speedometer! Makes street use a little more practical.
Transmission is a Ford 4 Speed Top Loader.
Dual exhaust exits on both sides of the car provide a real race car sound.
That isn’t a flaw in the paint, it was raining during the photo shoot. Like I said no trailer queen here.
This is the Talladega every one wants, Boss 429! On the Dynao this engine pulls 838 HP at the rear wheels and 6400 RPM and 757 fpTQ at 4700 RPM . It will also do 179 mph at 7000 RPM.






































This is an outstanding car!
It looks great here, but, it is even better when viewed in person. Not only that, but, Rick and his entire family are just great people to be around. I may have had the only Presidential Blue Talladega on the track at the St. Louis gathering, but, I was still jealous of Rick and what he did by creating this fantastic tribute car!

The article brings back great memories of my 1968 Mercury Cyclone. I wish I had it back. Those years (1968-69) were great years to watch Mr. Parsons and other Ford drivers such as Cale and David Pearson (my favorite).
Awesome BOSS 429 TORINO TALLADEGA! These WINNING FAST FORDS drove the pro-GM NAZICAR BIG BOSSES NUTS until they finally chocked them and the Cryco Hemi to death with their prejudiced and infamous CARB SLEVES and RESTRICTIONS-all so the UGLY and BOXY Monte Carlo could be competitive. The BOSS 429 FORD TORINO TALLDEGA was the ULTIMATE FORD FACTORY STOCK CAR ,and the Pro-GM NAZICAR BIG BOSSE killed the competition demonstrating their Gm Favoritism and no doubt $$$$ Money under the table from GM brass !
The yellow car was built from Wendell Scott’s last BLUE 70 Fairlane. That was the ORIGINAL car bought from ford for 1.00 by Mario Andrediti. It was raced by Benny after it was rebuilt with the new Talladega front sheet metal. IT IS THE ORIGINAL CAR with new body work. This car has the proper HOLMAN and MOODY front sub frame. The owner should have the Bill Of Sale from ford showing the 1.00 purchase price. I have the front bumper from Wendell’s last BLUE ford.It has some petty blue over spray on the back of the bumper. Wendell’s car can be seen in the movie setting in the front yard of his house.
Well, thats a beutiful car and a great tribute to Benny. If I ever get a hold of the funds, I’d like to put together any year Wood Brothers/Dan Gurney tribute; Galaxie or Torino. You’ve given me something to aim for with that #72. Great job. Sincerely, Brian M. Baker
