Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II go to Muscle Car Museum

With a great deal of excitement and regret we delivered our 1969 Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II to the Floyd Garrett Muscle Car Museum in Sevierville Tennessee. One of our favorite cars will be on loan to the Muscle Car Museum for a year. Although it will give a lot more muscle car enthusiasts an opportunity to see a rare car it is a lot like sending your kids off to camp or collage. You know it is the best thing to do but you will miss them. When Katrina and I returned home and saw that big empty spot in the garage the loss really hit home!

We will move another car into the Spoiler’s spot but it won’t be the same. We have owned the car for over seven years and it has become a solid part of our family.

Again, like when you drop the kids off somewhere for an extended stay you take photos to remember them by. Well, we did the same and we also took some photos of its new roommates. We have attached the photos of our Dan Gurney Spoiler II in its new temporary home and have also updated some photos of the other cars in the Floyd Garrett Muscle Car Museum. You can find these new photos on our updated site of a previous visit to the Muscle Car Museum by clicking here.

I grew up and lived in Iowa for a good portion of my life before moving to Southern California. After 20+ years we now live outside Nashville Tennessee. I have been into cars since I was old enough to remember. I don't have a brand loyalty although I do prefer American Muscle especially the 1969/1970 NASCAR Aero Cars. (Check out our other web site at www.TalladegaSpoilerRegistry.com site) As long as it has four wheels and an engine I get excited. Few men are lucky enough to be able to share their passion for cars with the woman they love. Fortunately, my wife, Katriana, is also a gear head and many of our activities revolve around the cars. We have a small collection that includes at least one car from each of the Big Three. It includes a Best of Show winner, a survivor, a driver with lots of patina and several others. Katrina prefers all original cars while I like to modify them so we have a few of each. When we aren't playing with cars we are out working with or showing our miniature donkeys. 1. Richard,

I love the 69 Spoiler II’s and your car is beautiful. I have another excuse to plan a trip to the Floyd Garrett Museum. Thanks for giving us an opportunity to see one up close.

  2. The Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II was not what you could call a “Muscle Car”. It listed things like ‘Special Performance Vehicle’ ‘CrossCountry Ride Package’ but only 290 HP. It was a nice driving vehicle and I still have mine – bought new in Auburn Alabama, had 183 miles on the odometer (driven from Atlanta Racetrack to Auburn) where the dealers obtained their one vehicle. It is always in a stage of fixing. Also it fell under insurance as a non-muscle car.

  3. I have a friend that has his 1970 Mercury Cyclone Spoiler 429SCJ w/drag-pac that he bought nre with less than 40K miles on it. It’s Blue w/black interior and C6 and 4:30 gears. Never wrecked, never restored and has most everything. he has turned down $40,000 as is three times already, he bought in brand New in Grandbury Texas.
