Aero Cars on Track at Talladega
By: Richard Fleener
This is the last post on the 40th Reunion of the Aero Warriors at the Talladega Super Speedway. The Dodge Daytons, Plymouth Superbirds, Ford Talladegas, Charger 500s and Mercury Cyclone Spoiler IIs all got their chance to recreate that magical time back in 1969 when Stock Cars were Stock Cars and race drives had to drive the cars even on the speedways.
We were not allowed to open em up and fly around the banking but the sheer experience of being able to once again bring these cars to Talladega was amazing. Actually, going around the high bankings at parade speed gave us all an opportunity to appreciate what the track really is and how gigantic the turns really are.
Below is a video of some of the activity but for more details and lots of great photos just CLICK HERE.
Howdy Richard & Katriana,
Cool pictures & video! Love your website too.
It was a pleasure meeting you two and seeing your #1 production Ford Talladega. What a find!!
I hope to see ya’ll out there on the circuit again soon.
Cheers,
Phil
Phil, really like your Petty Bird! Hey, the Forge outdoor show is open to all cars bring your over it will be a great show. If you need a registration form let me know and I will send one to you. The outdoor show is FREE to register.
Thanks for the invite to the Forge show but I’m not lucky like you and have a wife that enjoys this hobby. I used up all my husband points to go to Talladega last year. I’ll be spending my vacation time with her this year. At least I’ll be able to finish up Phase 1 on my car and get the engine bay to look like a 1970 Grand National racer.
Ya’ll have fun!
Phil
