Detailing the Past

When I was a youngster there were no video games or computers. When school let out it was either a pinball machine or model cars that filled my evening. That is until I discovered girls! Once I aged sufficiently I was able to advance into real cars and real girls!

Back to when I was younger, it was a time of building plastic hot rods and custom cars out of the newest AMT plastic kit. Those 1/24 scale models allowed me to escape into a world of cars that I have yet to journey from. My passion then, as it remains today, was to create the overall concept but had difficulty ever finishing a project. It was all those annoying details that I hated. I always envied the guys who had the patience to do all the intricate detail work that makes a car a true standout.

Look at the photo above very closely. It is NOT real; it is a 1/24 scale diorama constructed by Michael Paul Smith. I am absolutely blown away by the craftsman ship of his work. This is real art and talent. To see a complete slide show of his work click the link below.

I grew up and lived in Iowa for a good portion of my life before moving to Southern California. After 20+ years we now live outside Nashville Tennessee. I have been into cars since I was old enough to remember. I don't have a brand loyalty although I do prefer American Muscle especially the 1969/1970 NASCAR Aero Cars. (Check out our other web site at www.TalladegaSpoilerRegistry.com site) As long as it has four wheels and an engine I get excited. Few men are lucky enough to be able to share their passion for cars with the woman they love. Fortunately, my wife, Katriana, is also a gear head and many of our activities revolve around the cars. We have a small collection that includes at least one car from each of the Big Three. It includes a Best of Show winner, a survivor, a driver with lots of patina and several others. Katrina prefers all original cars while I like to modify them so we have a few of each. When we aren't playing with cars we are out working with or showing our miniature donkeys.
