2025 Eyes On Design

1969 Dodge Daytona

My wife and I enjoy participating in at least one concours-style show each year. This year, (2025), we were invited to be part of a very unique class at the Eyes On Design show at the Ford House in Grosse Pointe Shores, MI (Detroit). We attended previously several years ago with our 1969 Ford Talladega. This time, we showed our 1969 Dodge Daytona known as the Nuremberg Daytona. We are used to competitive classes that are judged on originality, condition, and correctness. We were in a very unique “color and design” class. Thirteen beautiful late 60s and early 70s muscle cars of various wild colors were placed in a large circle facing outwardly, loosely representing a gigantic color wheel.

The Judges were faced with selecting the best cars based only on design and color. Hoods and trunks were closed. The undercarriage was not judged. This had to be an extremely challenging and subjective process for the Judges. The Judges for the show are designers, most from local auto manufacturers. Our husband, and wife team did a great job of looking each car over and talking to the owners about their cars’ design and color.

The competition was strong, with each car having an outstanding design and sparkling color. It had to be a very difficult process for the Judges. However, they made their decision of first and second with a tie for second place.

The winner was an outstanding 1970 Ford Mustang in Grabber Blue. The second place tie went to our 1969 Dodge Daytona in “T7” Dark Bronze and a beautiful 1970 Dodge Challenger in Plum Crazy.

Photos of every car in the class are shown below.

I grew up and lived in Iowa for a good portion of my life before moving to Southern California. After 20+ years we now live outside Nashville Tennessee. I have been into cars since I was old enough to remember. I don't have a brand loyalty although I do prefer American Muscle especially the 1969/1970 NASCAR Aero Cars. (Check out our other web site at www.TalladegaSpoilerRegistry.com site) As long as it has four wheels and an engine I get excited. Few men are lucky enough to be able to share their passion for cars with the woman they love. Fortunately, my wife, Katriana, is also a gear head and many of our activities revolve around the cars. We have a small collection that includes at least one car from each of the Big Three. It includes a Best of Show winner, a survivor, a driver with lots of patina and several others. Katrina prefers all original cars while I like to modify them so we have a few of each. When we aren't playing with cars we are out working with or showing our miniature donkeys.
