Project Drag Pack goes to a show

The show season is beginning to wind down for the year but we recently attended an October Fest and car show put on by Wilson Bank and Trust in Lebanon TN. It was a great show as usual and the show area was over flowing with terrific cars of all kinds. We even took our recently found Barn Find Project Dan Gurney Mercury Cyclone Spoiler Drag Pack Car out for an outing prior to tearing it down for restoration. Out side of a couple of Rat Rods it probably was the car in the most need of a restoration.

We only gave it a bath and got it running for the show. We also took our Cale Yarborough Special to park next to it as way of comparison; sort of a before and after example. There was a lot of interest in the two cars but it wasn’t until we were loading up to leave when I fired up the open exhaust, nasty 428 Super Cobra Jet in the Gurney that we were immediately confronted by two Cyclone gear heads. This made the entire day worth while! We had some quick discussions and all learned a lot, exchanged business cards and soon will get together to share parts and stories. The perfect ending to a good show and beginning of the winter project season.

Here are some general photos from the show.

I grew up and lived in Iowa for a good portion of my life before moving to Southern California. After 20+ years we now live outside Nashville Tennessee. I have been into cars since I was old enough to remember. I don't have a brand loyalty although I do prefer American Muscle especially the 1969/1970 NASCAR Aero Cars. (Check out our other web site at www.TalladegaSpoilerRegistry.com site) As long as it has four wheels and an engine I get excited. Few men are lucky enough to be able to share their passion for cars with the woman they love. Fortunately, my wife, Katriana, is also a gear head and many of our activities revolve around the cars. We have a small collection that includes at least one car from each of the Big Three. It includes a Best of Show winner, a survivor, a driver with lots of patina and several others. Katrina prefers all original cars while I like to modify them so we have a few of each. When we aren't playing with cars we are out working with or showing our miniature donkeys.
