Set Up Day at the 2012 Muscle Car Corvette Nationals

Every year we go to several car shows ranging from local to national events. We go both as spectators and as participants. It is always much more fun when we are showing. Unfortunately, most people who go to a national car show and never get the opportunity to display their own car at such an event. They never get to participate in the behind the scenes set up and move out of such events. Today, we are going to give you some insight into the fabulous fun of the behind the car show closed doors.

The following video gives you but one brief hint as to the action and thrill of Set Up Day at the 2012 Muscle Car Corvette Nationals in Chicago. As a spectator I would pay to get into the show hall during this period but realistically it just isn’t possible. The potential for damage and injury are very high when these cars are moving around in such close quarters. Honestly, I am surprised more of the cars don’t get damaged during such times.

As for move out; can you picture what it is like when the show is over and all these cars try to exit the building at the same time? The organization and discipline is critical to make all this happen without chaos and damage.

I grew up and lived in Iowa for a good portion of my life before moving to Southern California. After 20+ years we now live outside Nashville Tennessee. I have been into cars since I was old enough to remember. I don't have a brand loyalty although I do prefer American Muscle especially the 1969/1970 NASCAR Aero Cars. (Check out our other web site at www.TalladegaSpoilerRegistry.com site) As long as it has four wheels and an engine I get excited. Few men are lucky enough to be able to share their passion for cars with the woman they love. Fortunately, my wife, Katriana, is also a gear head and many of our activities revolve around the cars. We have a small collection that includes at least one car from each of the Big Three. It includes a Best of Show winner, a survivor, a driver with lots of patina and several others. Katrina prefers all original cars while I like to modify them so we have a few of each. When we aren't playing with cars we are out working with or showing our miniature donkeys. 1. Really neat behind the scenes peek at how it all comes together. I always say…kind of like a great big puzzle. So cool to see all the “pieces” come together!

    Thanks Richard.

  2. Bob, thank you for putting this show on every year. It is the most impressive show I have every participated in! I invited a friend and his wife to join me at the show this year and they had a wonderful time. This is a guy who is very hard to please and travels all over to his favorites every year but had never done the MCACN. Sunday his wife said I ruined him and he never wants to go to any other show again, just the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals!
