Barn Find AMX Update

We just stripped out the interior and will leave the old insulation down and add some new high-tech stuff right over it.

After being a little lazy this winter we are back on Project Barn Find AMX with hopes of having it ready for the May Good Guys show in Nashville. While we are waiting for Mark Stacey Restorations to have a spot open up in their paint booth we decided to tear into the interior.

The door shows remnants of the original white paint. These will also get a complete insulation covering.

First off we needed to decide what stayed and what needed to go. We originally wanted to keep all the original seat covers. They were in fine condition but the foam was shot and the vinyl was getting a little stiff. We were afraid if we pulled them apart to install the new foam we would rip the vinyl trying to get it back in place. So, one thing led to another and we have completely new material for the seats, headrests plus new foam, a complete carpet kit and a new headliner. We still need to obtain a good insulation package for under the carpet but there is time.

Of course the AMX is a 2 seater with no rear seat but it has a large storage area that will get all new carpet and insulation.

We have also started restoration of a steering wheel and clean up on the seat belts and other small items.

We previously sent all of the exterior chrome out to be done and hope to have it all back next week.

Once the Project Barn Find AMX gets back from paint we will go full speed on reassembly and then the fun begins!

Stay tuned we will keep you up to date on all the final steps.

Out with the old and in with the new (still in boxes).

I grew up and lived in Iowa for a good portion of my life before moving to Southern California. After 20+ years we now live outside Nashville Tennessee. I have been into cars since I was old enough to remember. I don't have a brand loyalty although I do prefer American Muscle especially the 1969/1970 NASCAR Aero Cars. (Check out our other web site at www.TalladegaSpoilerRegistry.com site) As long as it has four wheels and an engine I get excited. Few men are lucky enough to be able to share their passion for cars with the woman they love. Fortunately, my wife, Katriana, is also a gear head and many of our activities revolve around the cars. We have a small collection that includes at least one car from each of the Big Three. It includes a Best of Show winner, a survivor, a driver with lots of patina and several others. Katrina prefers all original cars while I like to modify them so we have a few of each. When we aren't playing with cars we are out working with or showing our miniature donkeys. 1. You are doing exactly what I want to do – to the car I have always wanted to do it to.

I love the AMX as it is obscure and most people have no clue what it is nor did they back in high school. Im 47 and at some point in the near future will own a car of this pedigree – hopefully it will be an AMX but heck, a fastback stang would do the trick or even a sleeper chevelle or dart. Great article look forward to seeing more of it!
