Banjo Mathews Talladega Prototype

The Talladega Family Reunion is going full blast and the cars are getting ready. You will remember the prior article we did on the Banjo Mathews car a few weeks back. Well, Jason and Clarence Thompson have been hard at work and we have an update for you.

Here is what it looked like back in 1969.

The father and son team have been working overtime in thier Tennessee shop and here is what they have been up to.

This is no regular 1969 Ford Talladega, this is one of the prototypes that saw press time and eventually went to NASCAR chassis builder extraordinaire, Banjo Mathews.

From here the front end looks like any other Torino but once the sheet metal goes on it becomes a Super Talladega!

It isn’t just that body that is getting a new life, check out this power plant.

There is more to see and more to tell you but you must plan on attending the Talladega Family Reunion at the Forge Muscle Car Show in Kingsport, TN this October 1 and 2 2010.

I grew up and lived in Iowa for a good portion of my life before moving to Southern California. After 20+ years we now live outside Nashville Tennessee. I have been into cars since I was old enough to remember. I don't have a brand loyalty although I do prefer American Muscle especially the 1969/1970 NASCAR Aero Cars. (Check out our other web site at www.TalladegaSpoilerRegistry.com site) As long as it has four wheels and an engine I get excited. Few men are lucky enough to be able to share their passion for cars with the woman they love. Fortunately, my wife, Katriana, is also a gear head and many of our activities revolve around the cars. We have a small collection that includes at least one car from each of the Big Three. It includes a Best of Show winner, a survivor, a driver with lots of patina and several others. Katrina prefers all original cars while I like to modify them so we have a few of each. When we aren't playing with cars we are out working with or showing our miniature donkeys. 1. We have a maroon talladega in Missouri. I bought it from
an estate in Alabama. The car is registered as being sold
    in winter Haven, FL.

The unique thing about it is when I bought it, it had
a 428 hood scoop with metal tie down pins like the Banjo
Mathews proto. It also had two fabricated sheet metal
cones about 6″ in dia. behind the headlights. They looked make shift air induction system.

We might be interested in coming to the reunion in October.
