Some of the acting is just a step above amateur night but the plot is good and will keep you guessing while predictable at time. This movie was written, stared in and just about everything else by a Hot Rod CAR GAL, Faith Granger. This is not the normal car movie with chases, crashes (although it does have a little of both) with little plot. It is a love story that you and your better half will both enjoy.

Where this DVD shines is in the car stuff. The Deuce of Spades is a beautiful vintage hot rod that sounds like a million bucks. The sound of that car idling down the street is worth the price of the DVD. When it is at speed on the salt lakes of CA the photography is outstanding!

When Katrina and I went to Good Guys 2009 Heartland Show in Des Moines we knew we would see some terrific cars. We also knew that Rad Rods by Troy(Troy Trepanier) builds some of the best customs and hot rods anywhere. However, when we walked up to the Rad Rides display we realized we had underestimated the both the show and Trepanier. This 1956 Chrysler 300B has to be one of the most beautiful Chryslers in existence. This car was built to be driven but it is so beautiful and well detailed I can’t imagine putting it on the road.

Trailer Queen?

Trailers have their place and cars are met to be driven, they are machines. I love to drive all of our cars but I do put them on a trailer behind the motor home for long hauls. I don’t consider any of them trailer queens just because they ride on a trailer once in awhile. This Chrysler is also not a trailer queen but I sure would put it on a pedestal!

It would be a thrill to drive this car but it is almost a shame to touch it. It appears to be so perfect that it deserves to be a trailer queen.

I many cars at shows that are detailed with “chromed this” and “polished that” and exhaust systems that will out shine a diamond in Paris Hilton’s navel. They are just over done for the purpose of being memorable. They remind me of the pretty girl at the dance who wears so much makeup you can’t see the real beauty she is. Such cars make me want to take them out and get them dirty and burn some rubber.

This car has no such weaknesses; it is a full tilt show car but is so elegant it looks as natural as a new production car. Not that it is cheap in any sense of the word but because it is so well designed everything looks natural and proper. This car wants you to act like the big brother and keep all the horny teenagers away from your little sister the home coming queen.

The chassis is hand built with all Dodge Viper suspension and brakes. Even GPS is provided.

Who can look at this engine compartment and say you have to use lots of Chrome to make an engine bay beautiful? This, in my mind, is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen.

There were tons of people and the cars were terrific. We spotted several we wanted to take home and even tried to do so on a couple but no sale.

We had our red and black 1959 El Camino on site  but did not enter it to be judged. I had a High School Reunion a few miles down the road in Oskaloosa so couldn’t do both.

If you are any where near the mid-west when Good Guys come to Des Moines you want to make sure and put this show on your “Bucket List”.

This is all part of the movement away from perfect trailer queens and more to the drive it like you stole it end of the spectrum. Agree or disagree, it is fun to watch a muscle car or hot rod do what it was intended for, go fast.

We just posted the last of our GoodGuys photos from Bowling Green Nostalgia Nationals. This bunch of photos covers the Customs and related cars that were there. As you would expect there were a bunch of 40s and 50s custom iron there but a beautiful group of late model cars were also on hand.

Last weekend we went to the first ever GoodGuys Nostalgia Nationals in Bowling Green, KY. Not just a car show, not just drag races, not a cruise, not just a swap meet, not just a car coral; IT’S ALL OF THAT! You know when someone says GoodGuys it means class; you know it means hot rods, you know it means customs and now it means muscle cars and drag racing and a lot more.

We spent Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the event and were never bored. For a first ever event the folks at GoodGuys did an excellent job. There were a few of the usual screw ups and confusion but all and all it went very well and we have no serious complaints.

The facilities were also very handy. We drove up in the motor-home and pulled the Talladega on a trailer. We camped right on the grounds at Beech Bend Campground along with what seemed like half the show cars at the event. It was extremely convenient and very quiet. We have stayed there previously when some Mustang folks were having a similar event and it was terrible. There were punk kids in jacked up Mustangs doing burn outs all night long and one report of a car getting out of control and hitting a camper. NONE OF THAT at this event. Everyone was on their best behavior and very friendly.

Our site has only been up a few months and we have constantly tried to monitor what the readers seem to like the most. It is overwhelming; you liked our coverage of the Nashville GoodGuys event and you like reading about our project cars. Guess what? We are going to give you more!

Next weekend Katrina and I will be in Bowling Green, KY with our Talladega participating in the 1st Nostalgia Nationals at Beech Bend Raceway! We won’t be racing but we will have the Talladega on display. Remember, this is the first Talladega off the assembly line so look us up and let’s talk cars!

While we are there we will be doing an extensive photo shoot of participants and may even do some video of the drags. We will be looking for a couple of feature cars as well.

We should have the first few photos up as soon as we get back and full coverage of the event within a week.

As for project cars; we have several prospects and we will be giving you a complete update as we go along. We also hope to include a few simple how to tips along the way.

I just got back from visiting the John Force Race Station compound in Yorba Linda California and it just reminds me how much Katina and I think of this racer. It seems so many racers are all about money and fame. Obviously John Force has plenty of both but it is also obvious he is one of the Good Guys. He is personable, generous and a father. His daughter Ashely is certainly on her way and appears to be a chip off the old block.

How can you get involved?

1. Car Clubs: We can list your car club in our links page but we need a story about your best event and you have to include good interesting photos. We also request you add http://www.LegendaryCollectorCars.com link to your club’s web page. Again you have to send us photos and stories. The best ones will make the page.

2. Road Tour: A big portion of the web site consists of our stories about traveling with a car club on a road tour or our own individual excursions. These stories are covered in ON TOUR.

3. The running theme of this site is husbands and wives having fun with their cars. Not sitting at car shows with the most expensive vehicles but seeing them on the road. Sure, we will try to get the best cars possible and the most unique vehicles but we really want to focus on getting as many clubs and people participating on the site as possible. We are using lots of photos and videos to keep you entertained.

4. Locations: Much of this site’s stories are photographed in the southeastern parts of the Country. We are located near Nashville and obviously we prefer to stay near home. The weather is good and there are a large number of car clubs and enthusiasts in the area. There are also numerous major car events in this part of the Country. However, we also travel to other parts of the Country for major shows and activities. These might include a Club tour through the mountains in Colorado; a visit to the Pomona swap meet in California or a trip to the northeastern part of the Country to see the fall colors; there are also the numerous Super Chevy Shows, Fun Ford Weekends, Good Guy events and similar activities that occur regularly all over the Country.

5. NASCAR; we enjoy racing. We will be at NASCAR events and vintage racing events. You will see it all right here.
