Darlington Historic Racing Festival 2009 by O’Reilly Auto Parts
Thanks to Alan and Elaine Miller we have hundreds of photos from the recent vintage race cars at Darlington Raceway for the second annual Darlington Historic Racing Festival presented by O’Reilly Auto Parts.
This event is on my “Bucket List” but was not possible this year, maybe next year. The two-day event took place over the weekend at the track “Too Tough to Tame” and featured over 135 historic cars from 22 different states as well as Canada.
The thing I missed most was not seeing and getting autographs from Cale Yarborough and David Pearson. We have been trying for years to get helmets signed from these two to display with our Cale Yarborough Spoiler and Ford Talladega. We already have one from Dan Gurney for our Spoiler II. Other racing legends at the event included South Carolina natives Ned Jarrett, Junior Johnson, Marvin Panch and open-wheel legend Johnny Rutherford.
The festival featured several car classes – stock cars, Indy roadsters, midgets and modifieds – and included display only cars as well as cars that turned laps on the famed 1.366-mile egg-shaped oval.
Here are some of Alan and Elaine’s photos.
