I will be doing a more indepth article on the car in the very near future. The mirror was a real challenge. There were a number of holes in the door and was not sure where it should go. I contacted a AMC AMX parts supplier and was given the factory template for the mirror holes. I wish I would have put it back where it was becasue in its current location it is worthless!

Hello,

I noticed that you have the AMX out. It looks great. I am pleased that you used the Magnum 500 chrome wheels.

I also noticed that the right hand outside mirror is placed back on the door to match the left hand one. AMC placed the right hand mirror forward on the door as you saw when you purchased the car from me. I know that its a little late to place it now but it would allow you in the driver's seat to use it to better advantage.

You can buy a brand new one for $40,000 All they did was add a supercharger, sanded it down and made it rust. Looks like ass and no way in hell it cost $100,000. NOT POSSIBLE!

[...] Smokey Yunick 50 Mpg, 0-60 6 sec. Fiero I had the pleasure of meeting with Smokey Yunick a number of years ago, in a casual 1 on 1 lunch. We talked about a lot of automtive things but mainly fuel efficiency and his then current work on a ceramic internal combustion engine. I bring this to this thread because the attached article, (if you read to the very end), gets to the same point as the Youtube blog about govt. stiffeling fuel efficiency because of loss of fuel taxes. Regardless of the opinions on Smokey's achievements, he was a proven hot rodder, and true back yard genius. Hope you enjoy the thought provoking article.
Yes I have the holes for the flag. I found the 500 emblems off a car at my fathers garage. He has a collection about 3000 cars from the 30's through the 70's that's why I was trying to find out wht the flags are from. I will take some new pics of my car and send them to you.

Jeff, I suggest you obtain a Marti Report for the car. Make sure you ask them if your car has the GT 500 option. Other clues you need to look for are the build date and car's color. Do you have the holes in the quarter panels for the flag? The emblem is a stock Ford part taken from an earlier model. Not sure of the year or model but believe it was a Fairlane. Email photos of the car to me at rfleener@comcast.net.

I also have a 68 that has the GT badges and stripes on the bottom. The vin does not show it as a GT but I bought it off the original owner who wrecked it and it sat in his garage till I bought it so I know the badges were not just added. I have read an article that stated this is possible because when they were doing the Daytona 500 permotion with these cars they ran out of the big blocks and stuck the 302's in the remainder of the cars but still made it look like a GT. I am still missing the flags on the quarter. Do ou know where I can ge them?

Rick, gorgeous car, and great work! I am just about to get my '67 Fairlane convertible project going again (I've had it since I was 15), and am having a heck of a time finding the right fuel tank. Is it the same tank as was in the 2-door hardtop? If not, where did you find yours? Mine is now full of rust and sludge, and not sure I can save it. Thanks, TJ - mista.iv@gmail.com

If it were me, I would slowly repair and replace things to get it back up and running and on the road, keeping as much stock as I could. I would just enjoy the car for what it is. What it is the best looking camaro ever built. You have a special car from a special time of automotive history. Have fun with and don't worry about what anyone else says!

Tim, A friend(Gary St Louis) and I were at your museum this past Monday, April 3rd. You gave us personally a tour of your cars, etc. What a marvelous place. Also, thank-you for your time. We enjoyed our visit. I HAVE A QUESTION! Do you know where I could purchase the round front side reflectors on the VIPER DIAMONDHEAD motorcycle I looked at. I would really like to put them on my motorcycle. If you could email me the info. I would greatly appreciate it. Once again, it was nice to meet you and the information on the cars and bikes were really interesting. Thanks and have a nice day. John-David Ridgen

Bob said that when they were at the top of their game in the custom car building business, they didn't make much more than $2.75 an hour. All the hype these builders were given, never gave them the money they deserved. They were ahead of their time with this vehicle and others. Bob always said Ron was the best fabricatior between them. The Darin car was all hand hammered, and with all the compond curves, it was a real challange. No power tools used on that car. The only body production part on the car was the windshield, and I think it was from a Cady.
The frame was custom made from chromealloy steel.
Bob has a history even after Clarkaiser days of being extreamly creative and ahead of his time in special paints and coatings, convertible top mechanisms, limo's and special vehicles and inventions. Some of which we patented together.
I continue to promote Bobs name thru our company(Klai Enterprises, Inc.)in some special car events every year that were close to his heart. Auto's for Autism is one fund raising car show we participate in every year for the past 10 years with a special award as well as the Show car nationals held at MIS in July..
