Part of the fun and mystique of owning collector cars whether they are muscle cars, sports cars, hot rods or rat rods are the stories behind them. The stories about how they were acquired, about the breakdowns, about the special trips and especially about the people encountered along the way. The Mission of our site is about helping you make your car a Legend.

1969 Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II Drag Car

It is so much fun when you hear about some wild car out there in the hinter lands that sounds to good to be true and then you see it for yourself and it is better! When we went to the Ford Talladega Family Reunion I knew a couple of NASCAR Talladegas would be there but was pleasantly surprised to find a drag car there in Spoiler II skin! It was Randy Dolensek’s 1969 Spoiler II in dark green with 600 cubic inch of power. It can do 8:05 seconds (for a quarter mile) at a speed of 172 miles per hour.

Randy stated that when he switched from the standard Cyclone “W” nose to the more aerodynamic Spoiler II nose it made an improvement of several miles per hour in the quarter mile. We know from history that the nose did wonders on the NASCAR Super Speedway but in the quarter mile…wow.

Randy has been drag racing up in the Wisconsin area since he was 15 and it has always been in a Mercury Cyclone. Now 50, Randy is better than ever and so is the Cyclone!

Here are some more photos of this seldom seen race car.

About the Author: I grew up and lived in Iowa for nearly 40 years before moving to Southern California. The time there was very rewarding but the urge for a slower pace moved us to Tennessee a few years ago and we love it. I have been into cars since I was old enough to remember. I don't have a brand loyalty although I do prefer American Muscle. As long as it has four wheels on it I get excited. Few men are lucky enough to be able to share their passion for cars with the woman they love. Fortunately, my wife Katriana is also a gear head and many of our activities revolve around the cars. When they don't we are usually out with our miniature donkeys. You can see more about that part of our lives at http://www.LegendaryFarms.com.

My father bought brand new the Mercury Cyclone Spoiler 2 special, Cale from Long Beach Ford brand new. He saw it and had to have it. When I turned 16, he freshened it up for me and I drove it. In between, life and kids, it has been garaged. At one time, we were going to pass it down to my daughter, but way too many people following her at every stop made us really nervous. So now the car sits in garage. It was registered through mark moses when he had registry. Would love to have Cale see it and sign it.Have all original papers, pictures, documents. All it needs right now is the stripes back on,as we recently had her repainted. Have never thought of parting with it EVER. Now, mortgage co wants to auction my house, Im scared. It may be a possibility. Im heartbroken
